Front Seat Belt Replacement

Front Seat Belt

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

- If you are replacing the front seat belts after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to tear or damage the seat covers.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Check the front seat belts for damage, and replace them if necessary. Be careful not to damage them during removal and installation.

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure Procedures, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

2. Remove the front seat Front Seat Removal/Installation.

3. Remove these items:

- Front seat-back cover/pad Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement
- Front seat cushion cover/pad Front Seat Cushion Cover Replacement

4. Remove the bolt (A) and the front seat belt upper anchor (B).





5. Remove the screws (C), and the seat belt sleeve bracket (D) from the seat frame (E).

6. Detach the clip (F), then remove the seat belt sleeve (G).

7. Detach the clips (A, B), then release the hooks (C), and remove the recline rear cover (D) from the seat frame.






8. Remove the bolts (A) and the seat cushion protector (B) from back of the seat frame.






9. Disconnect and detach the seat belt tensioner connectors (A). Remove the wire tie (B), and detach the clip (C).

10. Remove the retractor mounting bolt (A), then remove the front seat belt and the retractor (B).






11. Install the seat belt in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- If the seat belt tensioner has deployed, replace the seat belt protector with a new one.
- Check that the retractor locking mechanism functions.
- Assemble the washers on the upper and lower anchor bolts as shown.
- Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the anchor bolts before reinstallation.
- Before installing the anchor bolts, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.
- Tighten the bolts by hand first, then tighten to the specified torque.
- Make sure the seat belt tensioner connectors are plugged in properly.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure Procedures.

Seat Belt Buckle Tensioner

NOTE:

- If you are replacing the front seat belt buckle tensioner after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Installation After Deployment Service and Repair, for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to tear or damage the seat covers.

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure Procedures, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

2. Remove the front seat Front Seat Removal/Installation.

3. Driver's seat: Lift up the front seat, then detach the seat belt buckle switch connector (A) and the seat belt buckle tensioner connector (B), then remove the wire tie (C).






4. Passenger's seat: Lift up the front seat, then detach the seat belt buckle switch connector (A) and the seat belt buckle tensioner connector (B), then detach the harness clip (C).






5. Remove the center cover from the seat.

6. Pull out the seat belt buckle switch/tensioner harness (A) through the space between the seat cushion and the seat linkage (driver's seat), or the hole on the seat track (passenger's seat).





7. Remove the center anchor bolt (B), and remove the seat belt buckle tensioner (C).

8. Install the seat belt buckle tensioner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- Assemble the washers and the collar on the center anchor bolt as shown.
- Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the center anchor bolts before reinstallation.
- Tighten the bolts by hand first, then tighten to the specified torque.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure Procedures.
