Headliner: Service and Repair




Headliner Removal/Installation

Special Tools Required

- KTC Trim Tool Set SOJATP2014

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

- Take care not to bend or scratch the headliner.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Be careful not to damage the dashboard and other interior trim.

1. Remove these items:

- A-pillar trim, both sides
- B-pillar lower trim, both sides
- B-pillar upper trim, both sides
- C-pillar trim, both sides
- D-pillar trim, both sides
- Upper quarter window trim
- Sunvisors, both sides Service and Repair
- Grab handles, four places Service and Repair
- Rear individual map lights Rear Individual Map Light Test/Replacement
- With rear entertainment system: Remove the wireless remote control and display cover and disconnect the RES connector Service and Repair.

2. Remove the roof console (A).

1. Remove the lenses (B).

2. Remove the screws (C), then pull out the front individual map light (D).

3. Disconnect the front individual map light connector (E). If equipped, disconnect the moonroof switch connector (F).

4. Remove the screws (G). Pull out the front side of the console, and release the rear hooks (H).





3. Pry out the cover (A) and remove the screws, then remove the coat hanger (B).






4. Remove the ground bolt (A).






5. With rearview mirror: Disconnect the connector (A).






6. If necessary, remove the roof console screw grommet (A) by squeezing the hooks (B).





7. If necessary, remove the map light clip by releasing the hooks (C), and then prying out the clip (D).

8. Disconnect roof wire harness connector (A) and detach the harness clips (B) from the driver's side A-pillar (C).






9. Disconnect the rear washer hose joint (A) and the roof wire harness connector (B), then detach the harness clips (C) from the passenger's side A-pillar (D).






10. Disconnect the rear window washer tube at the rear hatch.

11. Lower the headliner (A).

1. Remove the front door opening seals (B), rear door opening seals (C), and tailgate weatherstrip (D) from each roof portion.

2. With moonroof: Release the Velcro fasteners (E) and front clips (F) by lowering the headliner.

3. With the help of an assistant, detach the rear clips (G) by pulling the rear portion of the headliner down.

4. Detach the magnets (H) by carefully pulling down on the headliner.

12. With the help of an assistant, pull the headliner (A) along with the roof wire harness out through the tailgate opening. Do not bend the headliner excessively as this may crease or damage it.

13. If necessary, remove the cushion tapes (A) fastening the roof wire harness (B), the rear washer hose (C), and the RES wire harness (D) (with rear entertainment system) to the headliner (E) and detach the harness clips (F), then remove them from the headliner.

14. Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the headliner and affected trim pieces.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the headliner and all removed trim. Replace any pieces with the following damage:
- Any crease or tears in the headliner (A)
- Any cracks or breakage in the grab handle (B)
- Any damage around the grab handle holes (C) or sunvisor holes in the headliner
- Any cracks in the sunvisor bracket cover (D)
- Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shaft (E)
- Any cracks in the sunvisor base (F)
- Any cracks or breakage in the vanity mirror base (G)
- Any fasteners (H), clip bases (I), or magnet bases (J) which have come off the headliner
- When installing the grab handle, push on the handle against the bracket (K) until the clips (L) snap into place securely.
- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- Replace the removed cushion tape with new pieces.
- Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the roof.
- Make sure the headliner overlaps the trim pieces correctly.
- Be careful not to crease or damage the headliner when reinstalling it through the tailgate opening. Also be careful not to scratch the body.
