DTC P0511: IAC Valve Circuit MalfunctionNOTE:
- Information marked with an asterisk (*) applies to 2004-2005 models.
1. Reset the ECM with the HDS.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P1519* indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the IAC valve and the ECM.
4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
5. Disconnect the IAC valve 3P connector.
6. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
7. Measure voltage between IAC valve 3P connector terminal No.2 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 8.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the IAC valve and the PGM-FI main relay (IGP).
8. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
9. Check for continuity between body ground and IAC valve 3P connector terminal No.1.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 10.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the IAC valve and G101.
10. Disconnect ECM connector B (25P).
11. Check for continuity between body ground and ECM connector terminal B23.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the IAC valve and the ECM (B23).
NO - Go to step 12.
12. Connect IAC valve 3P connector terminals No.1 and No.3 with a jumper wire.
13. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal B23 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 14.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the IAC valve and the ECM (B23).
14. Remove the jumper wire from the IAC valve 3P connector, then reconnect the IAC valve 3P connector.
15. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
16. Measure voltage between body ground and ECM connector terminal B23.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.
NO - Replace the IAC valve.
