No Sound Is Heard From Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal)
No sound is heard from speaker(s) (display is normal)NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first.
- Set the fader and balance positions to the center.
- Before performing symptom troubleshooting, do the Audio unit power switch will not turn ON troubleshooting.
- For vehicles with a factory installed audio unit, do the self-diagnostic function, speaker check to help isolate the faulty speaker.
- Some models do not have rear speaker(s).
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Turn on the audio unit and check that the volume dial is not set to the min level.
Is it at the MIN level?
YES - Raise the volume level, and recheck the function.
NO - Go to step 3.
3. Check to see if there are specific speaker(s) that have no sound.
Are there specific speaker(s) with no sound?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - If all speaker(s) are inoperative, go to step 8.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
5. Check the speaker(s) with no sound for damage.
Is there any damage?
YES - Substitute the speaker(s) and recheck.
NO - Go to step 6.
6. Remove the speaker(s) with no sound, and disconnect the connector.
7. Check the speaker 2P connector for a loose or poor connection.
Reconnect the speaker 2P connector and recheck the symptom; does it still fail?
YES - Go to step 8.
NO - There was a poor connection; verify that the loose or poor connection is fixed.
8. Disconnect speaker 2P connector.
9. Measure the resistance between No. 1 and No. 2 terminals of the speaker connector.
Is there about 4 ohms?
YES - Go to step 10.
NO - Faulty speaker(s).
10. Remove the audio unit. Disconnect audio unit connector A (17P).
NOTE: Eject the CD before removing the audio unit to prevent damaging the CD player's load mechanism.
11. With all speaker(s) connected, measure the resistance between the following terminals of the audio unit connector A (17P) according to the table.
Is there about 4 ohms?
YES - Go to step 12.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the audio unit and the speaker.
12. Disconnect the speaker 2P connector.
13. Check for continuity between body ground and audio unit connector A (17P) terminals No. 2, 3, 7, 8, 11, 12, 15 and 16 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between the audio unit and the speaker.
NO - Substitute a known-good audio unit and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit.
