Gear Lockout Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
M/T Reverse Lockout Solenoid Test
Removal
1. Air Cleaner Assembly
1. Disconnect the intake air duct (A) and the intake air pipe (B).
2. Remove the harness clamp (C).
3. Remove the air cleaner (D).
2. Shift Cable Bracket
1. Remove the lock pins (A).
2. Remove the shift cable bracket bolts (B).
3. Disconnect the shift cables from the change lever assembly (C).
4. Carefully remove both cables and the shift cable bracket (D) together to avoid bending the cables.
3. Reverse Lockout Solenoid Assembly
1. Disconnect the connector (A).
2. Remove the reverse lockout solenoid (B).
4. Reverse Lockout Solenoid
1. Remove the pin (A), the select lock return spring (C), and select lock cam B.
Test
1. Reverse Lockout Solenoid Test
1. Connect jumper wires from the battery positive terminal to reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector terminal No. 1, and from the battery negative terminal to reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector terminal No. 2.
2. Make sure the reverse lockout solenoid works. If the reverse lockout solenoid does not work, replace it.
NOTE: The inhibitor should be pushed out when applying battery voltage to the solenoid, and the inhibitor should be released when there is no battery voltage at the solenoid.
Installation
1. Reverse Lockout Solenoid
1. Install the pin (A), the select lock return spring (C), and select lock cam B.
2. Reverse Lockout Solenoid Assembly
1. Clean any dirt and oil from the sealing surface of the reverse lockout solenoid and the shift arm cover.
2. Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003, 08718-0004, or 08718-0009 evenly to the shift arm cover mating surface of the reverse lockout solenoid. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.
NOTE:
* If you apply liquid gasket P/N 08718-0012, the component must be installed within 4 minutes.
* If too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket, remove the old liquid gasket and residue, then reapply new liquid gasket.
3. Install the reverse lockout solenoid (A).
4. Connect the connector (B).
3. Shift Cable Bracket
1. Apply a light coat of silicone grease (P/N 08C30- B0234M) to the shift cable ends (A).
NOTE: Make sure not to get any silicone grease on the terminal part of the connectors and switches, especially if you have silicone grease on your hands or gloves.
2. Connect the shift cable ends to the change lever assembly (B).
3. Install the shift cable bracket (C).
4. Install the lock pins (D).
4. Air Cleaner Assembly
1. Install the air cleaner (A).
2. Install the harness clamp (B).
3. Connect the intake air pipe (C) and the intake air duct (D).
