DRIVE SHAFT / PROPELLER SHAFT: PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 2GR-FSE): INSPECTION
1. INSPECT FLEXIBLE COUPLING
(a) Check the front and rear flexible couplings for cracks or damage.
(b) Inspect the flexible coupling centering bushing.
NOTICE:
If the bushing is damaged, replace the propeller shaft assembly.
2. INSPECT PROPELLER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a dial indicator and V-block, check the runout of the propeller intermediate shaft assembly.
Maximum runout:
0.8 mm (0.0314 in.)
NOTICE:
The dial indicator must be set perpendicular to the center of the propeller intermediate shaft assembly.
HINT
If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller intermediate shaft.
3. INSPECT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a dial indicator and V-block, check the runout of the propeller shaft assembly.
Maximum runout:
0.8 mm (0.0314 in.)
NOTICE:
The dial indicator must be set perpendicular to the center of the propeller shaft assembly.
HINT
If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller shaft assembly.
4. INSPECT UNIVERSAL JOINT SPIDER ASSEMBLY
(a) Check that the spider bearing rotates smoothly.
(b) Check that there is no play in the spider bearing.
HINT
If necessary, replace the propeller shaft assembly.
5. INSPECT NO. 1 CENTER SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY
(a) Turn the center support bearing by hand in the rotating direction. Check that the center support bearing turns smoothly.
(b) Check that the rubber part is not cracked or deformed and that the spring is not misaligned.
(c) Check that the center support bracket of the center support bearing is not cracked or deformed.
(d) Check that the seals are not cracked or damaged.
HINT
If the center support bearing is damaged, worn, or does not turn smoothly, replace it.
