Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the dress engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair) .
2. Depressurize the fuel system. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief (Fuel Pressure Relief) .
3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair) .
Important: Plug or cap the fuel feed pipe (2) and fuel rail tube (1) ends to prevent fuel leaks and/or contamination.
4. Disconnect the fuel rail feed pipe (2) quick connect fitting. Refer toMetal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service) or Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service) .
5. Remove the spark plug leads (1).
6. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) lock (3) from the ignition coil main connector (2).
7. Disconnect the ignition coil main connector (2).
8. Remove the ignition coil assembly to valve rocker arm cover retaining studs (4).
9. Remove the ignition coil assembly (1).
10. Loosen the valve rocker arm cover to cylinder head retaining bolts (1).
11. Remove the valve rocker arm cover (2).
Important: The valve rocker arm cover gasket is a single use only component and must be replaced whenever the valve rocker arm cover is removed from the cylinder head.
12. Remove the valve rocker arm cover gasket (1).
Discard the valve rocker arm cover gasket (1).
Installation Procedure
Important:
* All gasket surfaces should be free of oil and other foreign material during assembly.
* DO NOT reuse the valve rocker arm cover gasket.
* The valve rocker arm cover bolt grommets may be reused.
* If the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve grommet has been removed from the rocker arm cover, install a NEW grommet during assembly.
1. Install a NEW valve rocker arm cover gasket (1).
2. Install the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation - Left Side (Overhaul) .
3. Install the ignition coil assembly (1).
4. Install the ignition coil bracket to valve rocker arm cover retaining studs (4).
Tighten the studs to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
5. Connect the ignition coil main connector (2).
6. Install the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) lock (3) from the ignition coil main connector (2).
7. Install the spark plug leads (1).
8. Remove the plug on the fuel feed pipe (2) and fuel rail tube (1) ends.
9. Connect the fuel rail feed pipe (2) quick connect fitting. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service) or Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service) .
10. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair) .
11. Install the dress engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair) .
