Symptoms - Steering Wheel and Column
Important: Review the system Description and Operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to Steering Wheel and Column Description and Operation (Description and Operation).
Visual/Physical Inspection
1. Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the steering system.
2. Inspect the easily accessible or visible steering components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
3. Verify the tires are the proper size. Refer to Tire Placard (Application and ID).
If the tires are not the proper size, replace the tires. Refer to Tire Mounting and Dismounting (Removal and Replacement).
4. Measure the tire pressure. Adjust the tire pressure if necessary. Refer to Tire Placard (Application and ID).
5. Verify the power steering fluid level is correct. Verify the power steering fluid is free from foam or contamination. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid (Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid).
Intermittent Conditions
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections (Component Tests and General Diagnostics).
