Rear Suspension Coil Spring



Coil Spring Replacement (FWD)

Tools Required

J 45400 Strut Spring Compressor


Removal Procedure

1. Remove the spring and shock absorber assembly. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (Rear Suspension Shock Absorber).
2. Use the J 45400 , or equivalent, in order to compress the spring.




3. Use a wrench in order to hold the piston rod.
Remove the upper nut.




4. Remove the shock absorber upper insulator retainer (9).
5. Remove the shock absorber upper insulator (8).
6. Remove the shock absorber upper mount (7).
7. Remove the shock absorber lower insulator (6).
8. Remove the spring upper insulator (5).
9. Remove the spring (3).
10. Remove the jounce bumper (2).
11. Remove the shock absorber (4).



Installation Procedure





1. Install the jounce bumper (2) to the shock absorber (4).
2. Install the spring (3).
Position the lower tip of the coil on the gap in the lower spring seat.
3. Use the J 45400 , or equivalent, in order to compress the spring.
4. Install the spring upper insulator (5).
5. Install the shock absorber lower insulator (6).





Important: The right rear shock mount is the mirror image of the left rear shock mount.


6. Install the shock absorber upper mount.
Position the front stud 80.6 degrees (a) from the centerline of the lower bolt hole.
7. Install the shock absorber upper insulator.
8. Install the shock absorber upper insulator retainer.

Important: Do not tighten the nut. Verify the position of the shock absorber upper mount is correct before tightening the nut.


9. Install the upper nut.
10. Verify the position of the shock absorber upper mount is correct.
11. Remove the spring and shock absorber assembly from the J 45400 , or equivalent.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).

12. Use a wrench in order to hold the piston rod.
Tighten the nut.

Tighten the nut to 56 N.m (41.3 lb ft).

13. Install the spring and shock absorber assembly. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (Rear Suspension Shock Absorber).
