Rear Suspension Strut Mount Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Ignition OFF.

Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.


2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning (Safety Glasses Warning)

3. Remove the rear wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the rear strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement (Rear Suspension Strut).





Warning

Use only the CH-48845 Spring Compressor when servicing suspension components on this vehicle. Other tools may not be strong enough for the springs on this vehicle and you could be injured if you do not use Special Tool CH-48845. Failure to do so could result in serious personal injury.

Note: Observe the orientation of the coil spring (1) relative to the rear strut carrier plate (5) and rear suspension strut mount (2).

5. Support the rear strut assembly (4) in a suitable device.

Warning

Do not over compress the spring. Severe overloading may cause tool failure which could result in bodily injury.

Note: Only use hand tools to perform the following service procedure.

6. Install the CH-48845 (3) to the coil spring (1).
7. Compress the coil spring (1) using CH-48845 (3) until the rear strut assembly (4) is free from the spring tension of the coil spring (1).





Note: Observe the orientation of the upper washer (4)

8. Using a suitable tool (1) hold the rear strut piston shaft (2) while loosening the rear strut assembly retaining nut (3).
9. Discard the rear strut assembly retaining nut (3).
10. Remove the upper washer (4) from the strut assembly.




11. Remove the rear strut suspension mount (1) from the rear strut assembly (2).

Installation Procedure





Note: Observe the orientation of the rear strut suspension mount (1) relative to the strut assembly (2).

1. Install the rear strut suspension mount (1) to the rear strut assembly (2).





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

Note: Observe the orientation of the upper washer (4)

2. Install the upper washer (4) to the strut assembly.
3. Install a NEW rear strut assembly retaining nut (3).
4. Using a suitable tool (1) hold the rear strut piston shaft (2) while tightening the NEW rear strut assembly retaining nut (3) and tighten to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).





Note: Observe the orientation of the coil spring (1) relative to the rear strut carrier plate (5) and rear suspension strut mount (2).

5. Support the rear strut assembly (4) in a suitable device.
6. Decompress the coil spring (1) using CH-48845 (3) until the coil spring (1) is fully seated to the strut assembly (4).
7. Remove the CH-48845 (3) from the coil spring (1).
8. Install the rear strut assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement (Rear Suspension Strut).
9. Install the rear wheel to the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
10. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
