Front Brake Hose Replacement
Front Brake Hose Replacement
Removal Procedure
Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.
Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning (Safety Glasses Warning).
Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning (Brake Dust Warning).
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Warning (Dangers, Warnings, and Cautions).
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning (Brake Fluid Irritant Warning).
Caution: Refer to Adding Fluid to the Brake System Caution (Adding Fluid to the Brake System Caution).
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution (Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution).
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the front wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings.
4. Detach the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring harness (5) from the brake hose retaining bracket (2).
5. Place a clean suitable container under the brake pipe fitting (3).
Note: Hold the brake hose (4) with a suitable tool whilst disconnecting the brake pipe fitting (3) to prevent damage to the brake pipe fitting (3).
6. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting (3) from the brake hose (4).
Note: Install a rubber cap or plug to the brake pipe fitting (3) in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
7. Plug the brake pipe fitting (3).
8. Remove the brake hose retaining bracket to wheel house retaining nut (6).
9. Remove the brake hose retaining bracket (2) from the wheel house (1).
10. Detach the brake hose (1) from the strut mounted brake hose retaining bracket (2).
11. Remove the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt (4).
12. Remove the brake hose (2) from the brake caliper (1).
Note: Install a rubber cap or plug to the brake caliper (1) in order to prevent brake fluid loss and/or contamination.
13. Plug the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt hole in the brake caliper (1).
14. Place a shop towel on a hard surface.
Note: The copper brake hose sealing washers (3) may be stuck to the brake caliper (1) and/or the brake hose (2).
15. Tap the threaded end of the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt (4) on the shop towel to remove the copper brake hose sealing washers (3) from the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt (4).
Note: Copper brake hose sealing washers become work hardened due to the heat generated with brake applications and will not reseal. Install NEW copper brake hose sealing washers (4) whenever the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt (3) is removed.
16. Remove the 2 copper brake hose sealing washers (3).
Discard the 2 copper brake hose sealing washers (3).
