Power Brake Booster Inlet Hose Replacement (6.0L)
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Battery Disconnect Warning).
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
Note: With the ignition OFF and the brakes cool, apply the brakes 3-5 times, or until the brake pedal becomes firm, in order to deplete the vacuum brake booster power reserve.
2. Deplete the vacuum brake booster power reserve.
3. Remove the engine dress cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Compress the vacuum hose retaining clamp (4) at the vacuum brake booster (2) end and slide 50 mm (2 in) back along the vacuum hose (1).
5. Disconnect the vacuum hose (1) and the vacuum brake booster check valve (3) from the vacuum brake booster (2).
6. Detach the vacuum hose (1) from the bulkhead mounted vacuum hose retaining bracket (5).
7. Compress the vacuum hose retaining clamp (2) at the intake manifold vacuum port (1) and slide 50 mm (2 in) back along the vacuum hose (3).
8. Disconnect the vacuum hose (3) from the intake manifold vacuum port (1).
9. Remove the vacuum brake booster check valve (1) from the vacuum hose (2).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the vacuum brake booster check valve (1) to the vacuum hose (2).
2. Install the vacuum hose retaining clamp (2) to the correct location on the vacuum hose (1) to secure the vacuum brake booster check valve (3).
3. Connect the vacuum hose (3) to the intake manifold vacuum port (1).
4. Compress the vacuum hose retaining clamp (2) and slide along the vacuum hose (3) to the correct location to secure the vacuum hose (3) to the intake manifold vacuum port (1).
5. Connect the vacuum hose (1) and vacuum brake booster check valve (3) to vacuum brake booster (2).
Note: Make sure the vacuum hose (1) is not twisted. Compress the vacuum hose retaining clamp (4) and rotate the vacuum brake booster check valve (3) as required.
6. Attach the vacuum hose (1) to the bulkhead mounted vacuum hose retaining bracket (5).
7. Install the engine dress cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
