Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement

Removal Procedure




Caution: Refer to SIR Caution (SIR Caution).
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement (Steering Wheel Replacement).
3. Remove the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement (Tilt Lever Replacement).
4. Remove the retaining screws that secure the lower trim cover to the steering column.
5. Disconnect the toggle switch.
6. If necessary, remove the toggle switch from the lower trim cover.




7. Remove the lower trim cover by tilting the cover down and sliding the cover back in order to disengage the locking tabs.




8. Remove the retaining screws (1) from the upper trim cover (2).
9. Remove the upper trim cover (2).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the upper trim cover (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).

2. Install the retaining screws (1) to the upper trim cover (2).

Tighten the screws to 1.5 Nm (13 in. lbs.).




3. Install the lower trim cover by matching the tabs slots on the trim cover with the locking tabs on the upper trim cover and tilting the lower trim cover up.




4. If necessary, install the toggle switch into the lower trim cover.
5. Install the retaining screws to the lower trim cover.

Tighten the screws to 3.5 Nm (31 in. lbs.).

6. Connect the toggle switch.
7. Install the tilt lever to the steering column. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement (Tilt Lever Replacement).
8. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement (Steering Wheel Replacement).
9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
