Steering Wheel Removal and Installation
Steering Wheel and Column Components
NOTE:
- The coil in the contact coil cable assembly will break if the contact coil is turned too much.
Do not turn the contact coil more than about two-and-a-half turns in either direction from the neutral position.
- The impact energy absorbing function of the steering column assembly may be impaired if the steering column assembly receives an excessively large force.
Be careful not to strongly impact the steering column assembly when removing and installing it.
Removal
1) Set steering wheel in straight-ahead position.
2) Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
3) Disable air bag system. Disabling Air Bag System
4) Remove driver air bag (inflator) module from steering wheel. Removal and Installation
5) Disconnect steering switch connector.
6) Remove steering wheel nut and put matchmark (1) on steering wheel and shaft.
7) Remove steering wheel using special tool (A).

(A): 09944-36011
Installation
NOTE:
If the operations in Steps 1) and 2) are omitted or not performed as instructed, the contact coil cable assembly will break when the steering wheel is turned.
Be sure to perform Steps 1) and 2) exactly as instructed.
1) Conduct centering of contact coil cable assembly. Procedures
2) Align steering shaft with matchmark (1) of steering shaft and steering wheel and install steering wheel.
3) Tighten steering wheel nut to specified torque.
Tightening torque
Steering wheel nut (a): 33 Nm (3.4 kgf-m, 24.5 lbf-ft)
4) Connect steering switch connector.
5) Install driver air bag (inflator) module to steering wheel. Inspection
6) Connect negative (-) cable at battery.
7) Enable air bag system. Enabling Air Bag System
