Speaker Circuit
AUDIO AND VISUAL SYSTEM: Speaker Circuit
Speaker Circuit
DESCRIPTION
- When the vehicle has a built-in type amplifier, a sound signal is sent from the radio receiver to the speakers via the "Built-in Type Amplifier System" circuit.
- When the vehicle has a separate type amplifier, a sound signal from the radio receiver is amplified by the stereo component amplifier and then transmitted to the speaker via the "Separate Type Amplifier System (for Coupe)" or "Separate Type Amplifier System (for Convertible)" circuit.
If there is a short in this circuit, the stereo component amplifier detects it and stops output to the speakers.
Thus sound cannot be heard from the speakers even if there is no malfunction in the stereo component amplifier or speakers.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
(a) Disconnect the connectors shown in the illustration on the left from the stereo component amplifier assembly or the radio receiver assembly and speakers.
(b) Measure the resistance between the speaker and the stereo component amplifier assembly or the radio receiver assembly to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
Standard resistance:
Below 1 Ohms
(c) Measure the resistance between the speaker and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.
Standard resistance:
10 kOhms or higher
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK VEHICLE TYPE
(a) Choose type to be inspected.
Result:
B -- INSPECT FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER
A -- Continue to next step.
3. INSPECT NO. 1 WOOFER BOX SPEAKER
(a) Resistance check.
(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
NOTE: The speaker should not be removed for checking.
Standard resistance:
NG -- REPLACE WOOFER BOX SPEAKER ASSEMBLY NO.1
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. INSPECT FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER
(a) Resistance check.
(1) Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
Standard resistance:
Separate Type Amplifier System (Coupe)
3 to 4 Ohms
Separate Type Amplifier System (Convertible)
4 to 6 Ohms
Built-in Type Amplifier System
3.2 to 4.8 Ohms
NG -- REPLACE FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. INSPECT FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER
(a) Check that malfunction disappears when another speaker in good condition is installed.
OK:
Malfunction disappears.
HINT:
- Connect all the connectors to the speakers.
- When there is a possibility that either right or left front speaker is detective, inspect by interchanging the right one and the left one.
OK -- REPLACE FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER
NG -- Continue to next step.
6. INSPECT REAR SPEAKER
(a) Resistance check.
(1) Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
Standard resistance:
Separate Type Amplifier System (Coupe)
1.75 to 2.75 Ohms
Separate Type Amplifier System (Convertible)
2 to 2.8 Ohms
Built-in Type Amplifier System (Convertible)
5.1 to 6.9 Ohms
Built-in Type Amplifier System (Coupe)
Approximately 4 Ohms
NG -- REPLACE REAR SPEAKER
OK -- PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN ON PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
