Front Door: Adjustments
FRONT DOOR:
ADJUSTMENT
HINT:
- Before adjusting the door position for vehicles equipped with side airbags and curtain shield airbags, be sure to disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery. After adjustment, inspect the SRS warning light, the side airbag system and the curtain shield airbag system for normal operation (Diagnosis System). Then initialize both systems (Repair Instruction - Initialization).
- Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
- The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
1. ADJUST FRONT DOOR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.
CAUTION: Work must be started at least 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery. (The SRS is equipped with a back-up power source. If work is started within 90 seconds of disconnecting the negative (-) terminal battery and turning the ignition switch to the LOCK position, the SRS may deploy.)
(b) Using SST, adjust the door horizontally and vertically by loosening the body side's hinge bolts.
- Centering bolts are used to mount the door hinge to the vehicle body and door. The door cannot be adjusted with the centering bolts on. Substitute the centering bolts with standard bolts (w/ washers) when making adjustments.
- A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart (Standard Bolt - Specified Torque For Standard Bolts).
(c) Tighten the body side's hinge bolts after the adjustment.
Torque: 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft-lbf)
(d) Horizontally and vertically adjust the door by loosening the door side's hinge bolts.
(e) Tighten the door side's hinge bolts after the adjustment.
Torque: 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft-lbf)
(f) Adjust the striker position by slightly loosening the striker mounting screws and hitting the striker with a plastic hammer.
(g) Tighten the striker mounting screws after the adjustment.
Torque: 23 Nm (235 kgf-cm, 17 ft-lbf)
(h) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.
(i) Initialize systems (Repair Instruction - Initialization).
(j) Check the SRS warning light (Diagnosis System).
2. ADJUST FRONT DOOR GLASS SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Loosen the 2 nuts at the bottom of the window regulator.
(b) To adjust the position of the door glass' upper section as indicated by the arrows in the illustration, turn the stud bolt with a hexagon wrench (2 sides, 4 mm width).
HINT: When the stud bolt is loosened, the upper end of the glass leans to the inside of the vehicle. When the stud bolt is tightened, the upper end leans to the outside.
(c) Tighten the 2 nuts after adjustment.
Torque: 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf)
(d) To further adjust the position of the door glass upper section, use shims.
(1) Loosen the 2 nuts.
(2) Change the number of the installed shims to adjust the bottom of the door glass.
(3) Tighten the 2 nuts after adjustment.
HINT: When less shims are used, the door glass' upper section leans to the inside of the vehicle. When more shims are used, the door glass' upper section leans to the outside of the vehicle.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf)
Standard:
(e) Adjust the door glass' fully closed position horizontally and vertically, as shown in the illustration.
(1) Loosen the 2 installation bolts for the window stop upper, and install the glass temporarily in the fully closed position.
(2) Loosen the 3 installation nuts for the front door glass.
(3) By operating the power window regulator master switch, stop the door glass at approximately 3 mm (0.12 in.) before the fully-closed position.
(4) While holding the glass, adjust the door glass' fully closed position in the horizontal and vertical direction, as shown in the illustration.
(5) Tighten the 3 nuts after the adjustment.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf)
(6) While holding the door glass in the fully-closed position, press it lightly toward the glass stopper and then tighten the bolts properly.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf)
