ADJUSTMENT
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) When shifting from the P position to the R position with the ignition switch on (IG) and the brake pedal depressed, make sure that the shift lever moves smoothly and moves correctly into position.
(b) Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from the N position to the D position and moves rearward when shifting to the R position.
If operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly and check the transmission floor shift assembly installation condition.
2. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) Move the shift lever to the N position.
(b) Remove the nut and transmission control cable assembly from the control shaft lever.
(c) Align the protrusions of the park/neutral position switch.
(d) Pull back the boot.
(e) Move the slider in the direction indicated by arrow A and pry up the lock piece in the direction indicated by arrow B.
NOTE: Do not damage the boot.
(f) Reinstall the boot.
(g) Install the transmission control cable assembly to the control shaft with the nut.
Torque: 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf)
NOTE:
- If the transmission control cable end is excessively pushed up, the shift lever cannot be adjusted.
- When tightening the nut, confirm that the transmission control cable assembly is properly stretched.
(h) Push in the lock piece.
NOTE: Firmly push in the lock piece until the slider lock is engaged.
(i) Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when moving the lever from the N position to the D position and moves rearward when moving it to the R position. If it becomes hard to move the shift lever, readjust the shift lever position.
