PARKING BRAKE: PARKING BRAKE LEVER: REMOVAL

REMOVAL
CAUTION: Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing the parking brake lever Service Precautions.

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (w/ Front Seat Side Airbag)
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

2. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH
HINT: Refer to the instructions for Removal of the front seat assembly (w/o Seatback Board) Removal.

3. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY RH (w/o Seatback Board)
HINT: Perform the same procedure for the LH side.

4. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY RH (w/ Seatback Board)
HINT: Refer to the instructions for Removal of the front seat assembly (w/ Seatback Board) Removal.

5. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
HINT: Refer to the instructions for Removal of the front console box Removal.

6. REMOVE NO. 2 BELT ANCHOR REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)

(a) Remove the 4 bolts and No. 2 belt anchor reinforcement sub-assembly.
7. REMOVE NO. 2 BELT ANCHOR REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)

(a) Remove the 4 bolts and No. 2 belt anchor reinforcement sub-assembly.
8. REMOVE NO. 3 BELT ANCHOR REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)

(a) Turn back the floor carpet, and remove the 5 bolts and No. 3 belt anchor reinforcement sub-assembly.
9. REMOVE NO. 3 BELT ANCHOR REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)

(a) Turn back the floor carpet, and remove the 5 bolts and No. 3 belt anchor reinforcement sub-assembly.
10. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE EQUALIZER

(a) Remove the lock nut and loosen the adjusting nut.

(b) Separate the parking brake equalizer from the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly as shown in the illustration.
(c) Separate the parking brake equalizer from the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly.
HINT: Perform the same procedure as for the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE LEVER ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the parking brake switch connector.

(b) Remove the 2 bolts and parking brake lever assembly.
12. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE EQUALIZER

(a) Disengage the 2 claws to separate the parking brake cable end stopper from the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly.

(b) Disengage the 2 claws to remove the parking brake equalizer from the parking brake cable end stopper.
13. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CABLE END STOPPER

(a) Remove the parking brake cable end stopper from the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly.
14. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the adjusting nut.

(b) Pull up the parking brake lever claw.

(a) Remove the screw and parking brake switch assembly from the parking brake lever sub-assembly.
