PARKING BRAKE: PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension): REASSEMBLY

REASSEMBLY
NOTE: Before installation, apply high temperature grease to the areas indicated by the arrows Components.

1. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE





(a) Apply high temperature grease to the backing plate as shown in the illustration.
2. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN





(a) Install the No. 1 parking brake shoe hold down spring pin.
3. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN





(a) Install the No. 2 parking brake shoe hold down spring pin.
4. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER





(a) Using needle-nose pliers, install the parking brake shoe lever to the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly as shown in the illustration.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

5. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING





(a) Install the No. 1 parking brake shoe return tension spring.
6. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET





(a) Apply high temperature grease to the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set as shown in the illustration.





(b) Install the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.
7. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER





(a) Install the parking brake shoe lever to the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly.





(b) Pull the No. 1 and No. 2 parking brake shoe assemblies outward by hand and align them with the backing plates as shown in the illustration.
NOTE: Do not allow the parking brake shoe lever to come off from the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly.

8. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN COMPRESSION SPRING





(a) Using SST, turn the No. 2 parking brake shoe hold down spring pin and install the No. 2 parking brake shoe hold down compression spring as shown in the illustration.
SST: 09718-00011
9. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT





(a) Install the parking brake shoe strut.





(b) Position the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly correctly.
10. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN COMPRESSION SPRING





(a) Using SST, turn the No. 1 parking brake shoe hold down spring pin and install the No. 1 parking brake shoe hold down compression spring as shown in the illustration.
SST: 09718-00011
11. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING





(a) Install the No. 2 parking brake shoe return tension spring.
NOTE: Make sure to engage the tip of the No. 2 parking brake shoe return tension spring in the parking brake shoe strut.

12. INSTALL NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING





(a) Install the No. 3 parking brake shoe return tension spring.
13. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION
(a) Check that each part is installed properly.




NOTE: There should be no oil or grease on the friction surfaces of the shoe linings and disc.

14. INSTALL REAR DISC Reassembly
15. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Replacement
16. BED IN PARKING BRAKE SHOES TO DISCS
(a) Drive the vehicle at about 50 km/h (31 mph) on a safe, level and dry road.
(b) Pull the parking brake lever with 150 N (15 kgf, 33.7 lbf) of force.
(c) Drive the vehicle for about 400 m (0.25 mile) in this condition.
(d) Repeat this procedure 3 times.
NOTE: Set a 5-minute interval between each procedure to prevent the brakes from overheating.

17. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE AND PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL Adjustments
18. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)
