Trouble In Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator
SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM: Trouble in Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator
Trouble in Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator
DESCRIPTION
The occupant classification system detects the front passenger seat condition. It then informs a passenger of the front passenger airbag assembly and front seat side airbag assembly condition (activated/not activated) by the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator.
HINT: Approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to ON, the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator will be ON/OFF depending on the conditions listed below.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT: When the indicator is malfunctioning, if the SRS warning light is off, follow the procedures below as a DTC is not output. If the SRS warning light is on, a DTC is output. Troubleshoot for the output DTC.
PROCEDURE
1. PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Using the Techstream, perform zero point calibration Programming and Relearning.
(d) Turn the ignition switch off.
(e) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(f) Clear the DTCs stored in the occupant classification ECU Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
HINT: If the DTCs are not cleared at this time, past DTCs will remain.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK FOR DTC
(a) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(b) Clear the DTCs stored in the occupant classification ECU Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(c) Clear the DTCs stored in the center airbag sensor assembly DTC Check / Clear.
(d) Turn the ignition switch off.
(e) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(f) Check for DTCs of the occupant classification ECU Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
OK:
DTC B1797 is not output.
HINT: Codes other than DTC B1797 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
NG -- GO TO DTC B1797
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR (PERFORM SENSITIVITY CHECK)
(a) Perform the sensitivity check Programming and Relearning.
NG -- READ VALUE USING DATA LIST (PASSENGER SIDE BUCKLE SWITCH)
OK -- END
4. READ VALUE USING DATA LIST (PASSENGER SIDE BUCKLE SWITCH)
(a) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(b) Using the Techstream, read the Data List Scan Tool Testing and Procedures.
(1) Read the display when the passenger side buckle switch is operated.
OK:
The Techstream display changes correctly in accordance with the operation of the buckle switch.
NG -- REPLACE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY RH
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. READ VALUE USING DATA LIST (SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR)
(a) Fasten the passenger side seat belt.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Using the Techstream, read the value of the Data List Scan Tool Testing and Procedures.
OK:
When there is no tension on the belt, 39 to 64 is displayed on the Techstream.
NG -- REPLACE FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY RH
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK CONNECTORS
(a) Disconnect the connectors from the occupant classification ECU and the occupant classification sensor.
(b) Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.
OK:
The terminals are not deformed or damaged.
NG -- REPLACE FRONT SEAT WIRE RH
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. REPLACE FRONT SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY
(a) Turn the ignition switch off.
(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
(c) Replace the front seat cushion assembly (with occupant classification ECU and occupant classification sensor) Removal.
(d) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
(e) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(f) Clear the DTCs stored in the occupant classification ECU Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(g) Clear the DTCs stored in the center airbag sensor assembly DTC Check / Clear.
(h) Turn the ignition switch off.
(i) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(j) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
OK:
DTC is not output.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
9. PERFORM SENSITIVITY CHECK
(a) Perform the sensitivity check Programming and Relearning.
NEXT -- END
