P1455

1NZ-FXE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P1455: Vapor Reducing Fuel Tank System Malfunction

DTC P1455 - Vapor Reducing Fuel Tank System Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

Using the heated oxygen sensor and pressure switching VSV, the ECM detects fuel leaks from inside of a bladder tank in the fuel tank.
Based on signals from the heated oxygen sensor while the VSV for purge flow switching valve is ON, the ECM judges if fuel is leaked from the bladder tank or not.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The ECM detects leakage of evaporative emissions from the bladder membrane by using the heated oxygen sensor and purge flow switching valve. By opening the purge VSV and then closing the purge flow switching valve, air in the outer tank is drawn into the intake manifold.
The ECM checks concentration of hydrocarbon (HC) molecules in the air drawn from the bladder membrane area. Also, the ECM checks the sensor output before and after closing the purge flow switching valve. If there is change in the HC concentration when the purge flow switching valve is opened or closed, the ECM will conclude that the bladder membrane is leaking. The ECM will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC.

MONITOR RESULT

Refer to detailed information Mode 6 Data.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT: Read freeze frame data using Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air/fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P1455)
(a) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch ON (IG).
(c) Turn the tester ON.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Code.
(e) Read DTCs.
Result:

HINT: If any other codes besides P1455 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

B -- GO TO DTC CHART
A -- Continue to next step.

2. INSPECT FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the fuel tank Removal.
(b) Drain fuel from the tank and turn it upside down.
OK:
Fuel does not come out from anywhere except the main fuel hose.
OK -- REPLACE ECM
NG -- REPLACE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY
