STEERING GEAR / LINKAGE: STEERING GEAR (for 1AR-FE): INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION
NOTICE: When disconnecting the steering intermediate shaft assembly and pinion shaft of the steering gear assembly, be sure to place matchmarks before servicing.

1. INSTALL TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Install the lock nut and tie rod assembly LH to the steering gear assembly until the matchmarks are aligned.

HINT: After adjusting toe-in, tighten the lock nut.

2. INSTALL TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH
HINT: Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

3. INSTALL STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY (for AWD)

(a) Install the steering link assembly with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 70 Nm (713 kgf-cm, 51ft-lbf)

NOTICE:
- Make sure to tighten the bolts starting from the left side of the vehicle.
- Because the nut has its own stopper, do not turn the nut. Tighten the bolt with the nut secured.

4. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER BAR WITH BRACKET (for AWD) Installation
5. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET LH (for AWD) Installation
6. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET RH (for AWD)
HINT: Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

7. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE (for AWD)
HINT: Refer to the procedure from Install Engine Assembly with Transaxle Installation.

8. INSTALL STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)

(a) Install the front No. 1 stabilizer bracket LH.
Torque: 29 Nm (296 kgf-cm, 21ft-lbf)
11. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET RH (for 2WD)
HINT: Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

12. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR BRACE (for 2WD) Installation
13. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Connect the tie rod assembly LH to the steering knuckle with the nut.
Torque: 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36ft-lbf)
(b) Install a new cotter pin.
NOTICE: Further tighten the nut up to 60° if the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned.

14. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH
HINT: Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

15. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering link assembly.

(b) Install the bolt.
Torque: 35 Nm (357 kgf-cm, 26ft-lbf)
16. INSTALL FRONT WHEELS (for 2WD)
Torque: 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76ft-lbf)
17. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD (for 2WD)
18. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD)
19. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD)
20. INSTALL NO. 3 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD)
21. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT (for 2WD)
HINT: Inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment Service and Repair.
