DRIVE SHAFT / PROPELLER SHAFT: REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD): REMOVAL

HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

2. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT

(a) Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the rear axle shaft nut.





SST : 09930-00010

NOTICE:
Loosen the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the threads of the drive shaft may be damaged.

(b) While applying the brakes, remove the rear axle shaft nut.

3. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER COVER PLUG Service and Repair

4. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRAIN PLUG Service and Repair

5. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRAIN PLUG Service and Repair

6. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Replacement

7. REMOVE REAR DISC Disassembly

8. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Disassembly

9. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Disassembly

10. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN COMPRESSION SPRING Disassembly

11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT Disassembly

12. SEPARATE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN COMPRESSION SPRING Disassembly

13. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER Disassembly

14. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET Disassembly

15. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Disassembly

16. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER Disassembly

17. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN Disassembly

18. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN Disassembly

19. SEPARATE REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY Removal

20. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR Removal

21. SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY Removal

22. SEPARATE UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Removal

23. SEPARATE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Removal

24. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY Removal

25. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Using a brass bar and a hammer, remove the rear drive shaft assembly.





NOTICE:
Remove the rear drive shaft assembly while keeping it level.

26. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT SNAP RING

(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the rear drive shaft snap ring.
