Steering Pad

SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: STEERING PAD: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT STEERING PAD (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check DTC Check / Clear.

(b) Visually check for defects with the steering pad installed on the vehicle.

(1) The defects are as follows:

* Cuts on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

* Small cracks on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

* Significant discoloration on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

OK:

No defects are found.

HINT
If any of the defects is found, replace the steering pad with a new one.

2. INSPECT STEERING PAD (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG HAS NOT DEPLOYED)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check DTC Check / Clear.

(b) Visually check for defects with the steering pad removed from the vehicle.

(1) The defects are as follows:

* Cuts on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

* Small cracks on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

* Significant discoloration on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

* Cracks or other damage to the connector

* Deformation of the steering wheel assembly

* Deformation of the horn button contact plate of the steering pad

* Interference or uneven clearance between the steering pad and steering wheel assembly when the new steering pad is installed on the steering wheel assembly

OK:

No defects are found.

HINT
If any of the defects is found, replace the steering pad or steering wheel assembly with a new one.
