DRIVE SHAFT / PROPELLER SHAFT: REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD): REMOVAL

HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

2. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT

(a) Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the rear axle shaft nut.





SST : 09930-00010

NOTICE:
Loosen the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the threads of the drive shaft may be damaged.

(b) While applying the brakes, remove the rear axle shaft nut.

3. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER COVER PLUG Service and Repair

4. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRAIN PLUG Service and Repair

5. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRAIN PLUG Service and Repair

6. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Replacement

7. REMOVE REAR DISC Disassembly

8. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Service and Repair

9. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Service and Repair

10. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN COMPRESSION SPRING Service and Repair

11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT Service and Repair

12. SEPARATE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN COMPRESSION SPRING Service and Repair

13. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER Service and Repair

14. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET Service and Repair

15. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Service and Repair

16. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER Service and Repair

17. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN Service and Repair

18. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING PIN Service and Repair

19. SEPARATE REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY Removal

20. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR Rear Axle Hub (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension)

21. SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY Rear Axle Hub (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension)

22. SEPARATE UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Removal

23. SEPARATE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Removal

24. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY Rear Axle Hub (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension)

25. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Using a brass bar and a hammer, remove the rear drive shaft assembly.





NOTICE:
Remove the rear drive shaft assembly while keeping it level.

26. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT SNAP RING

(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the rear drive shaft snap ring.
