  4. DRAIN COOLANT (for Intercooler)
    WARNING:

Do not remove the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler) while the coolant (for Intercooler) is still hot. Pressurized, hot coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. Connect a hose with an inside diameter of 8.3 mm (0.327 in.) to the radiator drain cock as shown in the illustration.

    2. Loosen the radiator drain cock sub-assembly (for Intercooler) and drain the coolant (for Intercooler).

      HINT:

Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.

    3. Remove the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler).

    4. Tighten the radiator drain cock sub-assembly (for Intercooler) by hand.
  5. ADD COOLANT (for Intercooler)
    WARNING:

Do not remove the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler) while the coolant (for Intercooler) is still hot. Pressurized, hot coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. When using the GTS:
      1. Remove the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler).
      2. Add engine coolant to the intercooler reserve tank filler opening until it is filled to the F line at shown in the illustration.

        *a F Line

        Standard capacity

2.7 liters (2.9 US qts, 2.4 Imp. qts)

        NOTE:

Never use water as a substitute for coolant.

        HINT:

TOYOTA vehicles are filled with TOYOTA SLLC at the factory. In order to avoid damage to the engine cooling system and other technical problems, only use TOYOTA SLLC or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology (coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology consists of a combination of low phosphates and organic acids).

      3. While adding coolant so that the coolant level is kept near the F line in the intercooler reserve tank, activate the electric water pump assembly for approximately 1 minute and then stop pump operation for 1 minute. At that time, check that air bubbles are discharged to the intercooler reserve tank.

        Control the Intercooler Water Pump

        Standard

Repeat this operation approximately 3 times until the sound of the electric water pump assembly gets smaller and no more bubbles are visible from the intercooler reserve tank or the coolant level in the intercooler reserve tank stabilizes. When this condition is reached, this indicates that air is completely bled from the coolant system.

        HINT:

If the intercooler reserve tank is filled excessively with coolant, coolant may spill out when the electric water pump assembly is stopped.

      4. When air is completely bled, add coolant up to the F line in the intercooler reserve tank, and install the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler).
    2. When not using the GTS:
      1. Remove the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler).
      2. Add engine coolant to the intercooler reserve tank filler opening until it is filled to the F line at shown in the illustration.

      3. Install the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler). [*1]
      4. Start the engine. [*2]
      5. Operate the electric water pump assembly by running the engine at 2000 rpm or higher with the shift lever in N or P for 1 minute and then stop pump operation for 1 minute. Repeat this operation approximately 3 times until the operation sound of the electric water pump assembly reduces and no more bubbles are visible in the intercooler reservoir assembly or the coolant level in the intercooler reservoir assembly stabilizes. [*3]
        WARNING:
        • Be careful as the radiator hoses are hot.
        • Keep your hands away from the cooling fan.
        NOTE:
        • Make sure that the coolant level in the intercooler reserve tank does not drop below the L line when the engine speed is 2000 rpm or higher.
        • Immediately after starting the engine, if the intercooler reserve tank runs out of coolant, perform the following: 1) stop the engine, 2) wait until the coolant has cooled down, and 3) pour in coolant until it reaches the F line.
      6. Stop the engine and wait until the coolant cools down to ambient temperature. [*4]
      7. Check that the coolant level is between the F and L lines. [*5]

If the coolant level is lower than the L line, pour coolant of the specified concentration into the intercooler reserve tank until it reaches the F line, and repeat the procedure from steps [*1] to [*5].

If the coolant level is above the F line, drain coolant so that the coolant level is between the F and L lines.

  6. INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK (for Intercooler)

Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  7. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 85 [10/2022 - 11/2023] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 85 [11/2023 - ]

  8. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD RH

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 87 [10/2022 - 11/2023] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 87 [11/2023 - ]

  9. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD LH

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 86 [10/2022 - 11/2023] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 86 [11/2023 - ]
