On-Vehicle Inspection [12/2019 - 10/2022]: Procedure

  1. SECURE VEHICLE 
    1. Fully apply the parking brake and chock a wheel.
      WARNING:
      • Make sure to apply the parking brake and chock a wheel before performing this procedure.
      • If the vehicle is not secure and the shift lever is moved to N, the vehicle may suddenly move, possibly resulting in an accident or serious injury.

  2. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION 
    1. When moving the shift lever from P to R with the ignition switch ON and the brake pedal depressed, check that the shift lever moves smoothly and correctly into position.
    2. Start the engine and check that the vehicle moves forward when the shift lever is moved from N to D and moves rearward when the shift lever is moved to R.

      If the operation is not as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly or adjust the transmission control cable assembly.

  3. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK OPERATION 
    1. Move the shift lever to P.
    2. Turn the ignition switch off.
    3. Check that the shift lever cannot be moved from P to any other position.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, depress the brake pedal, and check that the shift lever can be moved from P to any other position.

      If the operation is not as specified, inspect the transmission floor shift assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [12/2019 - 10/2022] 

  4. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON OPERATION 
    1. Move the shift lever to P.
    2. Turn the ignition switch off.
    3. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, disengage the 2 claws to remove the shift lock release button cover from the shift position indicator.
      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the shift lock release button cover and shift position indicator.

    4. When moving the shift lever with the shift lock release button pressed, check that the shift lever can be moved from P to any other position.

      If the operation is not as specified, inspect the transmission floor shift assembly.
