Replacement [12/2019 - ]: Procedure

  1. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL (for Dynamic Torque Control AWD) 
    1. Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug and gasket.

    2. Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the rear differential drain plug and gasket to drain the differential oil.

      NOTE:
      • As the differential oil may be hot after driving, make sure that the differential is sufficiently cool before starting work.
      • Do not remove the 2 plugs (A).
    3. Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential drain plug.

      Torque: 39 N.m (398 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf) 

  2. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL (for Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD) 
    1. Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug and gasket.

    2. Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the rear differential drain plug and gasket to drain the differential oil.

      NOTE:

      As the differential oil may be hot after driving, make sure that the differential is sufficiently cool before starting work.

    3. Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential drain plug.

      Torque: 39 N.m (398 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf) 

  3. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL (for Dynamic Torque Control AWD) 
    1. Add differential oil.

      Oil Type

      Toyota genuine differential gear oil LX

      NOTE:
      • Add the differential oil in small quantities every few minutes.
      • Too much or too little oil will lead to differential problems.
    2. Check that the oil level is between 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) from the bottom lip of the rear differential filler plug opening.

      *a 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.)
    3. Inspect for oil leaks if the oil level is low.
    4. Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential filler plug.

      Torque: 39 N.m (398 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf) 

      NOTE:

      After changing the oil, drive the vehicle and then check the oil level again.

  4. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL (for Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD) 
    1. Add differential oil.

      Oil Type

      NOTE:

  5. INSPECT FOR DIFFERENTIAL OIL LEAK
