Precaution [12/2019 - 09/2020]
- PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE:
When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the cable is reconnected.
System Name See Procedure Stop and Start System Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2019 - 09/2020] Lane Control System Parking Support Brake System Pre-collision System Lighting System (EXT) (w/ AFS) Parking Assist Monitor System Panoramic View Monitor System Power Door Lock Control System Power Back Door System - HANDLING PRECAUTION FOR ROAD SIGN ASSIST SYSTEM
- The system may not detect traffic signs under the following conditions:
- The forward recognition camera is misaligned.
- Dirt, snow, ice or a sticker is on the windshield glass in front of the forward recognition camera.
- The windshield glass in front of the forward recognition camera is fogged up.
- The vehicle is significantly tilted.
- Driving in bad weather (heavy rain or snow, or dense fog).
- Water, snow, etc., is kicked up by a preceding vehicle.
- The headlights of an oncoming vehicle or sunlight is shining directly on the forward recognition camera.
- A very bright light from reflective objects, such as a road sign, road surface, another vehicle, etc., is shining directly into the lens of the forward recognition camera.
- The road sign is dirty, faded, tilted, or has a sticker attached.
- The sign is dirty, faded or tilted, or the contrast of an electronic sign is low.
- Whole or part of the sign is blocked by an object.
- The vehicle passes the sign too quickly after the sign comes into view.
- When in low light conditions or when the surrounding brightness changes suddenly.
- The sign is located immediately after a right or left turn.
- The sign is posted in a position too far away from the forward recognition camera.
- The sign is posted in a position that is too low compared to the vehicle.
- The sign is posted on the opposite side of an intersection or curve.
- The system may incorrectly recognize traffic signs under the following conditions:
- A sign is on an adjacent lane or side road, or immediately after traffic lanes merge or diverge.
- A sticker or graphic is on the rear of a preceding vehicle.
- An object which is not a traffic sign is similar in appearance.
- When there are multiple signs
- When a sign for certain kinds of vehicles, such as trucks, is detected.
- The system may not detect traffic signs under the following conditions:
- TROUBLESHOOTING PRECAUTIONS
- If a terminal contact point malfunction or part installation problem occurs, removal and reinstallation of the suspected part may return the system to normal. However, be aware that the normal condition may only be temporary.
- Before disconnecting connectors or removing/installing parts, determine the malfunctioning area by checking and writing down the vehicle condition at the time the malfunction occurred (DTC outputs etc.).
- Be sure to check for DTCs related to other systems. The road sign assist system may be influenced by malfunctions in other systems.
- HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
- Make sure that the ignition switch is off unless otherwise specified in the inspection procedure.
- After removal/installation, check for DTCs and confirm that a normal system code is output.
- REPLACEMENT PRECAUTIONS
- Forward Recognition Camera:
- If the forward recognition camera has been replaced with a new one or the windshield glass has been removed and installed, it is necessary to perform forward recognition camera adjustment.
HINT:
Forward recognition camera adjustment can be performed by using either One Time Recognition or Sequential Recognition.
One Time Recognition: Refer to ADJUSTMENT (ONE TIME RECOGNITION) [12/2019 - 09/2020]
Sequential Recognition: Refer to ADJUSTMENT (SEQUENTIAL RECOGNITION) [12/2019 - 09/2020]
- When replacing the forward recognition camera, replace it with a new one. If a forward recognition camera which was installed to another vehicle is used, the information stored in the forward recognition camera will not match the information from the vehicle and a DTC may be stored.
- When replacing the forward recognition camera, do not damage the camera lens or allow it to become contaminated with foreign matter.
HINT:
If the forward recognition camera lens is touched, replace the forward recognition camera with a new one.
- Do not reuse a forward recognition camera that has been dropped or subjected to a strong impact.
- If the forward recognition camera has been replaced with a new one or the windshield glass has been removed and installed, it is necessary to perform forward recognition camera adjustment.
- Windshield Glass:
- When replacing the windshield glass of a vehicle equipped with a forward recognition camera, make sure to use a Toyota genuine part. If a non-Toyota genuine part is used, the forward recognition camera may not be able to be installed due to a missing bracket or the road sign assist system may not operate properly due to a difference in the transmissivity or black ceramic border.
- Do not attach stickers, including transparent stickers, or other items to the outer side of the windshield glass within the area in front of the forward recognition camera.
