DTC P161A-87: Lost Communication with Alternator Missing Message [12/2019 - 10/2022]: Procedure

REPAIR OR REPLACE CHARGING SYSTEM

1. Disconnect the C54 ECM connector.
2. Disconnect the C57 generator assembly connector.
3. Disconnect the A51 battery state sensor assembly connector.
4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

   Standard Resistance

   Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
   C54-135 (LIN) - C57-2 (LIN)	Always	Below 1 Ω
   C54-135 (LIN), C57-2 (LIN) or A51-2 (LIN) - Body ground	Always	10 kΩ or higher

   Result

   Proceed to
   OK
   NG

NG 

REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

Result: 

OK

1. Check for DTCs, and then write them down.

   Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

2. Clear the DTCs.

   Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

3. Turn the ignition switch off and wait 30 seconds.

   Result

   Proceed to

1. Allow the engine to idle for approximately 17 minutes or more.
2. Check for DTCs.

   Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes
