DTC P162B-87: Lost Communication with Battery Monitor Module Missing Message [12/2019 - 10/2022]: Procedure

  1. CHECK BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION CONDITION 
    1. Check installation condition of the battery state sensor assembly.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    INSTALL THE BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY CORRECTLY. Refer to  INSTALLATION [12/2019 - 10/2022] 

    Result: 

    OK

  2. CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM 

    Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [12/2019 - 10/2022] 

    Result

    NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE CHARGING SYSTEM 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the C54 ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the A51 battery state sensor assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the C57 generator assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C54-135 (LIN) - A51-2 (LIN) Always Below 1 Ω
      C54-135 (LIN), A51-2 (LIN) or C57-2 (LIN) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 
    1. Check that the battery state sensor assembly connector is securely connected.

      OK

      The connector is securely connected.

    2. Disconnect the A51 battery state sensor assembly connector.
    3. Check the connector case and terminals for deformation or corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A51-1 (+B) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BATTERY - BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY)

  5. CLEAR DTCS 
    1. Check for DTCs, and then write them down.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

    2. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    3. Turn the ignition switch off and wait 30 seconds.

      Result

      Proceed to

  6. CHECK FOR DTCS 
    1. Allow the engine to idle for approximately 17 minutes or more.
    2. Check for DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Only DTC P162B-87 is output. A
      DTC P161A-87 and P162B-87 are output. B
      DTCs are not output. C

    Result: 

    REPLACE BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2019 - 10/2022] 

    Result: 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2019 - 09/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [09/2020 - 10/2022] 

    Result: 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [12/2019 - 10/2022]
