Rear Window Defogger System does not Operate [10/2022 - 11/2023]: Procedure

  1. CHECK AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM 
    1. Check the air conditioning system.

      HINT: 

      Both the window defogger system operation signal and air conditioning system operation signal are transmitted to the air conditioning amplifier assembly via the same communication line.

      OK

      The air conditioning system operates normally.

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    GO TO AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM 

    Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [10/2021 - 11/2023]

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS 
    1. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the GTS.

  3. REPLACE REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER SWITCH (AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Replace the rear window defogger switch (air conditioning control assembly) with a new or known good one.

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2022 - ]

    2. Check that the window defogger system operates normally.

      Refer to OPERATION CHECK [12/2019 - 11/2023] 

      OK

      The window defogger system operates normally.

      Result

    END (REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER SWITCH (AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY) WAS DEFECTIVE)

  4. INSPECT DEF RELAY 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 - 4 Auxiliary battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher
      3 - 4 Auxiliary battery voltage not applied between terminals Below 1 Ω
      3 - 5 Auxiliary battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω
      3 - 5 Auxiliary battery voltage not applied between terminals 10 kΩ or higher
      4 - 5 Always 10 kΩ or higher

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DEF RELAY - IG1-NO. 1 RELAY AND AUXILIARY BATTERY) 
    1. Remove the DEF relay from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Remove the DEF relay from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.

    2. Disconnect the H63 air conditioning amplifier assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      DEF relay holder terminal 1 - H63-18 (RDFG) Always Below 1 Ω
      DEF relay holder terminal 1 or H63-18 (RDFG) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DEF RELAY - REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WIRE (BACK DOOR GLASS)) 
    1. Remove the DEF relay from the No. 1 engine room relay block and No. 1 junction block assembly.

    2. Disconnect the W2 rear window defogger wire (back door glass) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      DEF relay holder terminal 3 or W2-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    1. Disconnect the W3 rear window defogger wire (back door glass) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

  9. CHECK AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Reconnect the H63 air conditioning amplifier assembly connector.

    2. Reinstall the DEF relay.
    3. Remove the air conditioning amplifier assembly with its connectors still connected.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H63-18 (RDFG) - H62-17 (GND) Ignition switch ON, rear window defogger switch on Below 1 V
      H63-18 (RDFG) - H62-17 (GND) Ignition switch ON, rear window defogger switch off 11 to 14 V
