Rear Window Defogger System does not Operate [11/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING GTS (REAR DEFOGGER INPUT SIGNAL) 
    1. Read the Data List according to the display on the GTS.

      Body Electrical > Power Distribution Box > Data List

      Rear Defogger Input Signal Window defogger switch signal input condition OFF or ON OFF: Window defogger switch is off

    1. Read the Data List according to the display on the GTS.

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BACK DOOR GLASS (REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WIRE) - POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX ASSEMBLY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the W2 and W3 back door glass (rear window defogger wire) connectors.
    2. Disconnect the 8G power distribution box assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      W2-1 (B) - 8G-43 Always Below 1 Ω
      W2-1 (B) or 8G-43 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      W3-1 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE BACK DOOR GLASS (REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WIRE) 

    Refer to REMOVAL [12/2019 - ]

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  4. CHECK AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM 
    1. Check the air conditioning system.

      For HV Model: Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2023 - ]

      For Gasoline Model: Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2023 - ]

      HINT: 

      Both the window defogger system operation signal and air conditioning system operation signal are transmitted to the air conditioning amplifier assembly via the same communication line.

      OK

      The air conditioning system operates normally.

    GO TO AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

  5. CHECK AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the indicator illuminates when the window defogger switch is on.

      OK

      Defogger indicator illuminates.

    REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY

  6. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS 
    1. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the GTS.

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Active Test
