Test Mode Procedure [12/2019 - 11/2023]

  1. ACTIVATE DEALER MODE (SIGNAL CHECK)
    NOTE:
    • After replacing or removing and installing a speed sensor, perform Dealer Mode (Signal Check) inspection to confirm that the speed sensors are operating correctly.
    • After replacing or removing and installing a speed sensor rotor, perform Dealer Mode (Signal Check) inspection to confirm that the speed sensors are operating correctly.

    HINT:

    • Signals related to the electronically controlled brake system can be inspected by performing a Dealer Mode (Signal Check) inspection. During the inspection, the display of items determined normal by the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) changes from incomplete to complete.
    • During Dealer Mode (Signal Check), the VSC system does not operate regardless of whether the system is normal or a malfunction is detected.
    • If a sensor is malfunctioning, ABS does not operate and the ABS warning and slip indicator lights illuminate.
    • When entering Dealer Mode (Signal Check), the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) communicates with the forward recognition camera to judge whether the vehicle is equipped with the pre-collision system. Therefore, do not exit Dealer Mode (Signal Check) within 5 seconds of entering Dealer Mode (Signal Check).
    • Even during Dealer Mode (Signal Check), if there is a system malfunction that causes brake hold control to be prohibited, when the vehicle is under the following conditions and the brake hold switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) is turned on, the brake hold operated indicator light blinks.
      1. Vehicle Conditions:
        1. The driver door is closed.
        2. The driver seat belt is fastened.
    1. Procedure to enter Dealer Mode (Signal Check).
      1. Turn the ignition switch off.
      2. Apply the parking brake.
      3. Check that the shift lever is in P.
      4. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
      5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      6. Check that the steering wheel is centered.
      7. Turn the GTS on.
      8. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Brake/EPB / Utility / Signal Check.

        Chassis > Brake/EPB > Utility

        Tester Display
        Signal Check

        HINT:

Do not exit Dealer Mode (Signal Check) within 5 seconds of entering Dealer Mode (Signal Check). If Dealer Mode (Signal Check) is exited within 5 seconds of entering Dealer Mode (Signal Check), DTC U023A-87 may be stored. If DTC U023A-87 is output after exiting Dealer Mode (Signal Check), enter Dealer Mode (Signal Check) again, wait at least 5 seconds, then recheck for DTCs.

    2. Confirm the system has entered Dealer Mode (Signal Check)
      1. Confirm that the ABS warning light and slip indicator light indicate the Dealer Mode pattern (blinking at 0.25 second intervals).

        HINT:

        • When in Dealer Mode (signal check), "Traction Control Turned Off" is displayed on the multi-information display.
        • When entering Dealer Mode (Signal Check), if the parking brake is engaged, the parking brake indicator light (red) will illuminate, and if the parking brake is not engaged, the parking brake indicator light (red) will blink in the Dealer Mode pattern (blinking at 0.25 second intervals).
    3. Lost Booster Pressure Judgment Check
      1. Depress the brake pedal several times to release vacuum from the brake booster assembly with the engine stopped.
      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      3. Check that the brake system warning light (red indicator) comes on when depressing the brake pedal with a force of 74.0 N (7.5 kgf, 16.6 lbf) or more for 1 second or more. (The lost booster pressure state is judged to be normal.)
      4. Start the engine while depressing the brake pedal with a force of 74.0 N (7.5 kgf, 16.6 lbf) or more for 1 second or more.
      5. Check that the brake system warning light (red indicator) goes off when quickly releasing the brake pedal. (The lost booster pressure state is judged to be normal.)
        NOTE:

If rechecking after the engine has started, end Test Mode, enter Test Mode again, and release vacuum in the booster by pumping the brake pedal prior to rechecking.

        HINT:

If the lost booster pressure state is not judged to be normal, the brake system warning light (red indicator) comes on and Test Mode (signal check) inspection item (Output Master Cylinder Pressure Sensor) is displayed.

    4. Master Cylinder Pressure Sensor Check
      1. With the vehicle stopped, release the brake pedal for 1 second or more and check that the value of Dealer Mode (Signal Check) Inspection Item Output Master Cylinder Pressure Sensor changes from incomplete to complete.

        HINT:

        • The status of the ABS warning light and slip indicator light will not change.
        • If the master cylinder pressure sensor is normal and the above step is performed when in Dealer Mode (Signal Check), the master cylinder pressure sensor check will complete normally.
        • If the lost booster pressure judgment check results are not normal, then the master cylinder pressure sensor check cannot be performed.
    5. Speed Sensor Check
      NOTE:

Before performing the speed sensor signal check, complete the master cylinder pressure sensor check.

      1. Start the engine.
      2. With the steering wheel held straight, accelerate the vehicle to a speed of 45 km/h (28 mph) or more without spinning the wheels.
      3. Check that the ABS warning light goes off.
        NOTE:
        • If the sensor check does not complete successfully or a malfunctioning sensor is detected, the ABS warning light indicates the Dealer Mode pattern (blinking at 0.25 second intervals) and the ABS system will not operate.
        • If the vehicle is driven at 80 km/h (50 mph) or more after the ABS warning light turns off, the speed sensor check will be performed again. In this situation, the ABS warning light will start blinking again.
        • The speed sensor check may not complete if the speed sensor check is started while turning the steering wheel or spinning the wheels.
      4. Stop the vehicle.
    6. VSC OFF Switch Check
      1. Press the VSC OFF switch.
      2. Check that the VSC OFF indicator light comes on.
      3. Press the VSC OFF switch again.
      4. Check that the VSC OFF indicator light turns off.
    7. Brake Hold Switch (Electric Parking Brake Switch Assembly) Check

      HINT:

Perform the check with the system in a normal condition.

      1. Make sure the following conditions are met:
        • The driver door is closed.
        • The driver seat belt is fastened.
      2. Press the brake hold switch (electric parking brake switch assembly).
      3. Check that the brake hold standby indicator light comes on.
      4. Press the brake hold switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) again.
      5. Check that the brake hold standby indicator light turns off.
    8. Downhill Assist Control Switch Check (for AWD)
      1. Press the downhill assist control switch.
      2. Check that the downhill assist control indicator light comes on or blinks.
      3. Press the downhill assist control switch again.
      4. Check that the downhill assist control indicator light turns off.
    9. End of Sensor Check
      1. If the sensor check completes successfully, the ABS warning light turns off when the vehicle is being driven, and indicates the Dealer Mode pattern (blinking at 0.25 second intervals) when the vehicle is stopped.
        NOTE:
        • When Dealer Mode (Signal Check) is started with the GTS and all items display complete, the sensor check ends.
        • If the sensor checks have not completed, the ABS warning light will remain blinking while the vehicle is being driven, and the ABS will not operate.
        • If a DTC is detected in Dealer Mode (Signal Check), the ABS warning light or slip indicator light illuminates.
        • If any DTCs are output or if Dealer Mode (Signal Check) items do not complete even after repeated attempts, repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
    10. End of Dealer Mode (Signal Check)
      1. Turn the ignition switch off and enter normal mode.
      2. Disconnect the GTS.
