Fail-Safe Chart [12/2019 - ]
- FAIL-SAFE OPERATION
- If there is a problem with sensor signals or actuator systems, the skid control ECU prohibits power supply to the brake actuator assembly and informs the ECM of a VSC system malfunction.
The brake actuator assembly turns off the solenoids and the ECM stops its VSC control according to signals from the skid control ECU. The vehicle will operate in a manner similar to a vehicle that is not equipped with ABS, TRAC, VSC and brake hold systems.
ABS control will be prohibited, but EBD control will continue to the extent that EBD control is possible. If EBD control is impossible, the brake system warning light (red indicator) will come on to warn the driver.
- If a VSC system component malfunctions before VSC control begins, VSC control will be prohibited. If a system component malfunctions during VSC control, the system will gradually stop performing control so as not to trigger a sudden change in vehicle operation.
If it is impossible for control to continue, the warning light comes on to inform the driver of system control termination.
- If a malfunction in the electronically controlled brake system or electric parking brake system is detected, control by the brake hold function is prohibited to prevent undesired operation and to protect the system.
HINT:
When control by the brake hold system is prohibited, the brake hold switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) is ON and the following conditions are met, the brake hold operated indicator light will blink.
- Vehicle conditions:
- The driver door is closed.
- The driver seat belt is fastened.
- Vehicle conditions:
- If the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) detects a malfunction in the SRS system, secondary collision brake control is prohibited to prevent undesired operation and to protect the system.
HINT:
When control is prohibited, a message is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly.
ABS, EBD AND BA SYSTEMSItem Operation Malfunction in the ABS system ABS, BA, TRAC, VSC, downhill assist control (for AWD) and hill-start assist control prohibited.
Brake hold control prohibited.Malfunction in the BA system ABS, BA, TRAC, VSC, downhill assist control (for AWD) and hill-start assist control prohibited.
Brake hold control prohibited.Malfunction in the EBD system ABS, EBD, BA, TRAC, VSC, downhill assist control (for AWD) and hill-start assist control prohibited.
Brake hold control prohibited.TRAC AND VSC SYSTEMSItem Operation Malfunction in the Engine control system
(TRAC system)Before control: Disables control.
During control: Uses only the brakes to perform control.Malfunction in the Brake control system
(VSC system)Before control: Disables control.
During control: Uses only the engine to perform control.Malfunction in the Brake control system
(TRAC system)Before control: Disables control.
During control: Disables control (by gradually ending control).SECONDARY COLLISION BRAKE SYSTEMItem Operation Malfunction in the Airbag system
(Secondary collision brake system)Before control: Disables control.
During control: Uses only the brakes to perform control.Malfunction in the Engine control system
(Secondary collision brake system)Before control: Disables control.
During control: Uses only the brakes to perform control. - If there is a problem with sensor signals or actuator systems, the skid control ECU prohibits power supply to the brake actuator assembly and informs the ECM of a VSC system malfunction.
- SYSTEM TEMPERATURE PROTECTION OPERATION
If the TRAC, downhill assist control (for AWD) or hill-start assist control system has been used constantly for a long time, the temperature of the brake actuator may increase excessively. If the temperature increases to a certain point, the meter buzzer will sound intermittently. If the temperature further increases, the meter buzzer sounds and the indicator light either comes on or blinks.
System Indicator Condition TRAC and hill-start assist control systems Slip indicator light comes on. Downhill assist control system (for AWD) Slip indicator light comes on.
Downhill assist control indicator light blinks.HINT:
- If the slip indicator light goes off (for the downhill assist control system, the downhill assist control indicator light also comes on (for AWD)), the systems automatically return to normal operating conditions.
- As this is not a malfunction, no DTC will be stored.
