DTC P0740-7E: Torque Converter Clutch Actuator Stuck On [12/2019 - 10/2022]: Procedure

  1. CHECK OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0740-7E) 
    1. Read the DTCs using the GTS.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Only DTC P0740-7E is output A
      DTC P0740-7E and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If any other codes besides P0740-7E are output, perform the troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [12/2019 - 10/2021]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2021 - 10/2022]

  2. INSPECT TRANSMISSION WIRE (SOLENOID (SL) VALVE) 
    1. Disconnect the C51 transmission wire connector.

      (Transmission Wire)
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      13 (SL) - Body ground 20°C (68°F) 11 to 15 Ω

  3. INSPECT SOLENOID (SL) VALVE (OPERATION) 
    1. Remove the solenoid (SL) valve.

      *1 Solenoid (SL) Valve

      Refer to DISASSEMBLY [12/2019 - 10/2022]

    2. Connect a positive (+) lead from the battery to the terminal of the solenoid valve connector, and a negative (-) lead to the solenoid body. Check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound.

      OK

      Valve moves and makes an operating sound.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE SOLENOID (SL) VALVE. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2019 - 10/2022]

  4. INSPECT TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the transmission valve body assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [12/2019 - 10/2022]

      OK

      There is no foreign matter on each valve and they operate smoothly.

    Result:

    REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2019 - 10/2022]

  5. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the torque converter assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [12/2019 - 10/2022]

      OK

      The torque converter assembly is normal.

    REPAIR OR REPLACE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2019 - 10/2022]

  6. REPAIR OR REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Repair or replace the automatic transaxle assembly.

  7. INSPECT SOLENOID (SL) VALVE (RESISTANCE)

      Refer to DISASSEMBLY [12/2019 - 10/2022]

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
