INTRODUCTION

Toyota vehicles are currently protected with Rapgard™ protective film designed to protect the horizontal painted surfaces. This material protects from acid rain, environmental fallout, and rail contamination. Follow the Removal Procedure in this bulletin to remove the Rapgard™ protective film within 90 days from initial application.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

  1. Wash the vehicle using normal dealer procedures.
    NOTE: Washing the vehicle will remove any transportation dirt, grime, or contamination and prevent scratches during the film removal process.
    NOTE: Cover ALL shirt buttons, jeans or pants rivets, belt buckles, and watches to prevent scratching the paint surface while removing the Rapgard™ protective film.
  2. Pull up and back in a quick motion to remove the Rapgard™ protective film from an uplifted or loose corner.
  3. Repeat step  2 for ALL the covered panels.
  4. Dispose of the Rapgard™ plastic film per the direction of the TLS (Toyota Logistics Services) using the preprinted UPS labels provided to your dealership.
  5. Use the 3 feet 30° angle and the straight on 90° perpendicular methods of inspection shown below to inspect vehicle inside a building under a fluorescent light for adhesive transfer or residue.

    NOTE:
    • The Rapgard™ protective film MUST be removed within 90 days from initial application.
    • If the Rapgard™ protective film has been removed, the dealer will be notified through Dealer Daily.
    • Report ANY problems with removal of the Rapgard™ film or damage to the vehicle caused by the application or presence of the material to your District Service and Parts Manager (DSPM).
  6. Reinspect the vehicle.

    Is the condition of the vehicle acceptable after removing the Rapgard™ protective film?

    • YES -  The Removal Procedure is complete.
    • NO -  Repeat step  1.
