INTRODUCTION

Some 2021 model year Avalon, Highlander, and Camry vehicles equipped with UA80E or UA80F transmissions may exhibit a whine or grind noise from the transmission. This condition may be caused by an issue with the front carrier assembly pinion shafts. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

Locate the transaxle serial number, found on the sticker located on the transaxle assembly side cover or on the engraved location as shown. A serial number decoder is also provided below.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 60 months or 60, 000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Confirm the vehicle exhibits one or both of the following noises from the transmission.
- Whine Noise Example
- Grind Noise Example
Does the vehicle exhibit one or both noises?
- YES - Continue to step 2.
- NO - This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
Is the vehicle equipped with a transmission built between the range shown in the Production Change Information section?
- YES - Continue to step 3.
- NO - This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
Replace the transmission.
