DTC P0850-12: Park/Neutral Switch Circuit Short to Battery; DTC P0850-14: Park/Neutral Switch Circuit Short to Ground or Open [10/2022 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING GTS (SHIFT SW STATUS) 
    1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Data List / Shift SW Status (P, R, N, D Range).
    2. In accordance with the display on the GTS, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Shift SW Status (P Range)
      Shift SW Status (R Range)
      Shift SW Status (N Range)
      Shift SW Status (D Range)

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List

      Shift SW Status (N Range) Park/Neutral position switch assembly status OFF or ON OFF: Shift lever not in N

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS (NEUTRAL POSITION SW) 
    1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Neutral Position SW.

    2. In accordance with the display on the GTS, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List

  3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [10/2022 - ]

    REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2022 - 11/2023]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2023 - ]

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE STOP AND START ECU - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the engine stop and start ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A34-21 (STA) - C52-9 (L) Always Below 1 Ω
      A34-17 (CLL) - C52-4 (B) Always Below 1 Ω
      A34-21 (STA) - Body ground Always 80 to 180 Ω
      A34-17 (CLL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C52-9 (L) - Body ground Always 80 to 180 Ω
      C52-4 (B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

    REPLACE ENGINE STOP AND START ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2022 - 11/2023]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2023 - ]

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [10/2022 - ]

    Result:

    REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2022 - 11/2023]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2023 - ]

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connectors.
    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A83-42 (P) - C52-3 (PL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A83-41 (R) - C52-2 (RL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A83-40 (N) - C52-8 (NL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A83-39 (D) - C52-7 (DL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A83-15 (NSW) - C52-4 (B) Always Below 1 Ω

      Result
