INTRODUCTION

Some 2016 - 2022 model year Toyota vehicles equipped with a 2GR-FKS, 2GR-FXS, A25A-FKS, or A25A-FXS engine may exhibit fuel odor from the high-pressure fuel pump. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to address this condition.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

  1. Confirm the condition exists.

    Does the vehicle exhibit a fuel odor from the engine bay?

    • YES -  Continue to step 2.
    • NO -  This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
  2. Is the fuel odor identified at the high-pressure fuel pump?
    • YES -  Continue to the Repair Procedure  .
    • NO -  This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Remove the high-pressure fuel pump.
    NOTE:
    • The intake manifold does NOT need to be removed to access the high-pressure fuel pump.
    • Vehicles equipped with a 2GR engine require removal of the surge tank assembly ONLY.
    • Removal of the coolant bypass hoses to the throttle body is not required. Remove the throttle body from the surge tank and lay it to the side.
